paper artist of the week: miriam londoño

leidse verhalen, 2007

"for londoño paper is not the traditional support for texts, drawings or something else. the paper, on the contrary, comes to the foreground as an independent presence in itself...her forms are built up of words written in the air and drawings made in the air, consisting of paper only. this gives the work a remarkable duplicity."

miriam londoño has developed an interesting papermaking technique whereby, using cotton and linen linters, she writes out sketches of script that become the paper itself. born in columbia and currently based in the hague, she has traveled extensively and studied papermaking techniques from masters of each locale. you can see more of her amazing work here.
