daily paper fix: post winter lanterns

Image
handmade cardboard lanterns by this is limbo . i love this street art project & the artist's statement about it: what i like about the lanterns is that it deals with the frail temporary aspect of putting up art in street...the longest (possible) life span of these pieces will be that of the candles, which is probably just a few hours. therefore, when someone runs into it on the street they know that it was placed there not so long ago and they, by coincidence, got there in the small time frame that the piece was "active", hopefully giving them the feeling that it was placed there especially for them, and maybe guiding them, following them home and subtly lighting up their way.

appeel.

Image
appeel ~ an interactive installation by design collective thegreeneyl . surfaces are covered by thousands of coloured stickers laid out in a grid. peeling a sticker off leaves a white spot in the grid, people hence start individually and collectively changing its appearance. once off the wall...slowly the little stickers spread, appearing further away from their source and occupying space. appeel inherits basic principles of interactivity and generativity applied to purely analogous means. its immanent potential of penetrating regulated public and private space counterpoints its apparent plainness. the dot spreads with the promise to ironically mark its carrier as a symbol of sale and possession. {via it's nice that }

paper artist of the week: marina shterenberg

Image
blueprints for improbable architecture by marina shterenberg . these works examine the psychological implications of institutional architecture, emptied of its use...layers of physical materials and light act as veils that reveal depicted space through intimate observation. the paper cutout screens and the reflective surface in the paintings blur the margins between the interior architecture of a gallery space and the perceived illusion...these newly invented spaces are meant to challenge our conventional perceptions of structures and their boundaries.
