a letter to my niece.

Image
my friend jackie at peppermags posted recently about spoonflower , an online service which allows you to design and print your own fabric. i'm fascinated by the idea ~ came across a beautiful example of the possibilities of this concept at the small object , and wanted to share. sarah wrote a letter to her niece and designed a fabric around it, spoonflower printed the fabric, and then sarah made this wonderful quilt as a holiday gift for her niece. so thoughtful and lovely.

paper artist of the week: andrew scott ross

Image
stories told in incredible miniature paper sculptures by andrew scott ross . by intersecting biological and archaeological themes with personal and primitive mythology, my art practice explores the fragilities inherit to culture and our often-tenuous relationship with the natural world. the grey cardstock scenes are from peter and the wolf , an installation/performance at the guggenheim, in collaboration with isaac mizrahi and the julliard orchestra. the white paper scenes are from the series rocks and rocks and caves . {via a good idea on paper }

graphology.

Image
obama's first signature as president. beautiful, no? graphology is the study of handwriting in order to analyze character. though the history of the discipline is controversial, there is sufficient anecdotal evidence to indicate it as a useful tool in evaluating personality. if so, there is good news... president obama's signature reveals a higher level of emotional energy and an inherent tendency for success. the slant of his signature is mostly vertical, which indicates a steadiness in his emotional response to external forces. and, the imaginary line where small letters rest, the baseline, is slightly wavy, which tells of a healthy balance between optimism and pessimism. steady hand. steady head. steady heart. sounds very promising. {image via urban preschool }
