daily paper fix: flipbooks

Image
a contemplation on the obsessive nature of time by deconstructed artichoke press ~ a series of 12 flipbooks, one for each month of the year. each flipbook shows the progressive growth of a surreal plant.

one black bird.

Image
as a general rule, my favorite spaces are artists' studios. something about the simultaneous mess and order, and how the space always feels as though its breathing with anticipation. i love paint splatters on concrete (or wood) floors and i love especially the objects of inspiration that always inhabit the area. while flickr browsing, i came across the image above of ceramic artist and designer diana fayt's studio (of one black bird )...she is a very talented ceramist, and i think her studio is quite charming. also check her blog , website , and store .

line up.

Image
i love how the elements of this sculpture, line up by rachel whiteread , look like chalk pieces. the colors are so soft, which is interesting considering rachel admits to a daily struggle to understand color and its place in her work. this piece is made of resin, plaster, wood, and metal ~ it and many other beautiful sculptures are presently on exhibit at gagosian gallery in los angeles.

paper artist of the week: maria ikonomopoulou

Image
you and me by maria ikonomopoulou . maria typically works with altered photographs, embroidering and cutting them to reshape storylines. about this project: during commissions ikonomopoulou has been doing in public spaces for several years, she kept record of all the names of people that have participated in her projects. these names reappear in her new works, installations and photoworks, as paper cut outs and hanwritten texts that become texture in a special way. you and me is a series of photographs of these names, cut of paper, and worn by a subject. lovely.

peek...aren't you curious?

Image
really nice branding and identity packaging for children's boutique peek...aren't you curious? by design boutique passing notes . i love how seamlessly the elements move from the page and into the retail space, and how the hole included in the stationary and packaging communicates quite literally the idea of curiosity and interaction. passing notes has a wonderful portfolio of other design projects ~ see more here . {via .v }

sustainable living find of the day: bamboosk8

Image
bamboosk8 makes beautiful decks of sustainable bamboo. did you know that skateboards have replaced furniture as the leading contributor to maple deforestation, according to the science channel? wow! i did not. these decks are durable, sustainable, and even stronger than maple, and...on a cool note, the owner of the company has installed the largest residential solar panel system in california.

this is going to be a huge post, but i can't help but post a gazillion pics of what i find to be some of the most amazing handcrafted furniture i've ever seen. palo samko is based in brooklyn, and that's about all i know, except to say that he has phenomenal woodworking skills! the designs and the attention to detail are just so, so beautiful ~ my jaw quite literally dropped with every click through the slideshow! enjoy! {via roadside scholar }

Image
mini-bamba is a laser cut designer collectible, made of bamboo, by ecosystems . this is a miniature, and would look just great on my desk. i really like the actual bamba chair also, but were they to add the animal friends to the full-scale, i would not hesitate!! the mini-bamba is available here ; also check the ecosystems brand website to learn/see more.
